Our Camp

The Thomas Behen Casting Camp was formed with the main goal of promoting youth outdoor education and involvement in the Maine outdoors and the sport of fishing.

Thomas Behen Casting Camp (TBCC) aims to collaborate with park and recreation departments, school systems and similar civic organizations. Additionally, TBCC hopes to support youth fishing organizations, such as B.A.S.S. and The Bass Federation (TBF), and to help sponsor other charitable events that promote youth outdoor education through fishing.

TBCC is designed to provide instructional opportunities in orienteering and fishing. TBCC plans to host approximately 20 - 30 children for a minimal fee or on a scholarship basis. TBCC encourages the campers to be active, to spend time outdoors, and to support learning in a variety of environments.

TBCC encourages youth, 10 to 16 years old, to participate in these outdoor experiential-focused areas:

Education - Our Outdoor Education curriculum takes a holistic approach, integrating subjects such as science, mathematics, language arts, and social sciences.

Environmental - The program offers educational experiences in fish biology, aquatic habitats, pond ecology, water quality management, and the study of water-dwelling insects.

Health & Wellness - Exploring the wilderness is vital for health enhancement, offering stress relief, strengthened physical immunity, enhanced short-term memory, better vision, and alleviation of nature deficit disorder symptoms.

The campers will receive instruction by experienced anglers on fishing techniques, fish care, and environmental stewardship. Prior to fishing,  each group will receive a water safety tutorial.
